A Very Sad Thanksgiving

2011-11-25

Happy Thanksgiving weekend everyone (to my fellow Americans).  However, the day was not a happy one as the world lost a true library and special person with the passing of my dear friend Magda Deak.  I have documented Magda's stories on the Facebook page and in the Warchest section so I won't repeat them here.  As difficult as it is to express my feelings for this truly amazing person, it is easy to express my thrill, honor and appreciation to have just been one of many that she affectionately called, "Sweetheart".  Magda was strong enough to save herself, her Mother, Sister and others during the Holocaust.  She could out-fox the "Angel of Death", Josef Mengele in Auschwitz and the SS in the labor camp, and take on any challenge during her life.  However, it must be said, she couldn't beat the Hungarian health care system of 2011 and get the care she needed, and the world became less friendly, less classy, less dignified, and less charming because of it.  Magda Deak was 86.
